Pepenazi, whose real name is Kayode Opeyemi, is a versatile rap artiste signed to Ecleftic Entertainment. A graduate of Estate Management from the Federal University of Technology, Akure had a interview with NaijaEverything:

NaijaEverything:What led you to music?

Pepenazi:Nothing really, i started music when i was so young, to be precise when i was in high school. I do attend literal and debate, then i discorvered i had the enthusiasm of going to shows and all that. I was really social so it was really easy for me to organize shows and other music concert, but am not that kind of  a guy that started from the church (choir) or some other places, I started from the roots where it was necessary. I had my first recording around 2007 with INT  then I noticed that i was having a good song then I started making tokens from it, basically that was how i started.

NaijaEverything:How are you coping with the Music Industry?

Pepenazi:Definitely, I’d say it’s challenging, because we have a lot of artist out there and they all also want to get to the limelight, but am not scared with those hit songs that have got, In the likes of “Illegal”  and the recent track I just dropped “One for the road” I think every artist can rely on those kind of tracks

NaijaEverything:How are you going to make yourself Unique in the Industry?

Pepenazi:By making good music, making your song “permanent” and exclusive. if you can learn from the likes of  Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti and so on, you’d notice they sang a kind of “permanent” song that would be around forever and that’s what am also doing!

NaijaEverything:The Illegal song, what made you to make the song?

Pepenazi:I thought the concept would be unique and cool, and it was for real, everybody loves the song, the Illegal slogan itself and everything.

NaijaEverything:Which other artist do you look forward to work with?

Pepenazi:I look forward to make a song with Wande Coal. he’s very original and some other artists.

NaijaEverything:Who Inspired you to do music?

Pepenazi:Radio pushed me to do music, lol. The thruth is I came from a background where  radio was the first priority, because my parents do listen to radios always, so I got really close to music and started writing my own lyrics and then, the perfection came in.

NaijaEverything:Which award do you look forward to Win?

Pepenazi:The Headies? Get the rookie award for now, and of course the Grammy!

NaijaEverything:Your message to other upcoming artist?

Pepenazi:Be easy on yourself, and also always put God first. Don’t critisize and don’t compromise yourself.
